Nigeria who failed to qualify for the last FIFA world cup tournament held in Qatar are also at the point of missing out for the next tournament, sitting at the 5th position in the qualification table with just 3 point from their last four matches, the Super Eagle has failed to win any matches during the qualification, with four point behind table leader Rwanda, South Africa and Benin Republic takes the 2nd and 3rd position respectively with same point with Rwanda while Lesotho are 4th in the table with 5 points follow by Nigeria with 3 points and Zimbabwe sitting at the bottom of the table with just 2 points.
The world cup which has been expanded from previous 32 teams to 48 teams will be very disappointing to see Nigeria failing to qualify for the world cup tournament it the North American countries. However, former Nigeria president has said Nigeria will qualify by God’s grace when speaking to Channels Television Sports Tonight. Amaju said Nigeria team and the NFF will give 100% commitment to make sure they qualify for the tournament and also want all Nigerians to support the team and be positive.
“So, let’s just wait and see, and let’s not be thinking negatively. Let’s look at the positive picture and see how we can qualify” says Pinnick
In August 2024, NFF announced the appointment of former German international player and Stuttgart manager Bruno Labbadia to take over the affair of Super Eagle from Finidi George but the deal collapsed. Labbadia cited organisational and logistical challenges for the collapsed deal rather than financial, as reported by Soccernet.ng
Pinnick as assured Nigerians that the Super Eagle will announce a new manager for the team.
“Any moment from now, I am sure they would be announcing a coach, an enterprising coach at that. “ says Pinnick
