Terry: I would never join a Premier League rival
John Terry plans to play on for two more seasons and the Chelsea
captain revealed he would continue his career abroad if he is deemed
surplus to requirements at Stamford Bridge.
The long-serving skipper has been given a new lease of life since Jose Mourinho returned to the London club after losing his place in the side under Rafael Benitez.
Terry was outstanding as Chelsea won the Premier League title as well as the League Cup last season and the 34-year-old stressed there is more to come from him, as he ruled out the possibility of following Petr Cech and Frank Lampard in making a move to a Premier League rival.
"I am 35 at Christmas — so [I will play on for] a couple of years," he told reporters.
"Every summer I work more or less every day to give myself the best chance. If it comes to that point where I am left out of the side I know it's not through any fault of not trying. To look at myself in the mirror and my family, that is all I do in my career."
When asked if he could contemplate going down the same road as Steven Gerrard, who ended his long Liverpool career by joining LA Galaxy, Terry said: "I could handle it for sure.
"No doubt, people like me and Steven want to play, of course. That is our natural instinct. When you play your whole career, it's hard.
Petr Cech was a model professional last year and that is why he got the move he wanted, because of how well he reacted around the place.
"I have seen other players go the other way. I certainly would go down the Petr route and continue giving everything to the squad. If I then felt Chelsea were going to release me or thought I had nothing else to give, but I thought I could, then of course I would still want to continue to play.

"But that would not be in the Premier League."
