Asamoah Gyan will be fit for Semi-final against Equatorial Guinea

Ghana assistant coach Maxwell Konadu said that striker Asamoah Gyan could be fit for the Africa Cup of Nations semi-final against hosts Equatorial Guinea on Thursday (5th February).Ghana assistant coach Maxwell Konadu gave the media the latest from the Black Stars' camp on Wednesday, 24 hours before their Africa Cup of Nations' semi-final with hosts Equatorial Guinea.

When asked if Asamoah Gyan would be playing on Thursday he didn't rule out the possibility, but said that the team know how to continue if he is unable to play.

Gyan was hit with a flying kick from Guinea's goalkeeper Naby Yattara in stoppage time of their quarter-final match and, according to head coach Avram Grant, "if it was a few centimetres down, he wouldn't play for many many years. A long long time."

Ghana are favourites but Konadu says he respects Equatorial Guinea for what they have been doing so far in the competition.

He wouldn't consider it a surprise if Ghana lose the game because, according to him, "it's football".

"We have been here before and we have been knocked out at this stage. But, this time around we want, yes, to make sure that we advance," he added.

It was not explained why neither head coach Avram Grant nor a player attended the news conference, which is a rule from the African Football Confederation (CAF).

However, according to a CAF senior official, Ghana caught them by surprise by changing the timings of their practice in downtown Malabo to the same time Konadu was speaking to media at the match venue.
