Luis Figo aiming FIFA presidential sit
Luis Figo wants to become FIFA president and claims he has the
nominations needed to be an official candidate against Sepp Blatter
The former Portugal, Barcelona and Real Madrid playmaker announced his campaign on Wednesday (28th January).
"I owe to football what I am. And I feel it's time to pay back what I have received over many years. I decided to become a candidate for FIFA Presidency. It was a well thought decision, born on the will to change, a reforming vision and the need to give more transparency to an institution that has been losing credibility and mobilising capacity. I look to FIFA's reputation at this moment and I don't like what I see. Football deserves better. Over the last weeks, months and even years I have watched a degradation of the institution's image and I feel it's time to revert this reality. FIFA must be a respected institution again and cherished all around the world. Football, the game, must be again the focus of FIFA. I have spoken to many people in football: Players, coaches and FA Presidents. All of them consider that something must be done. I was a professional football player and have worked on all its levels throughout my life. I think I know what's best for it." ~ Figo
