Southampton held Chelsea to 1 - 1 draw at St. Mary's Stadium
Chelsea was forced to 1-1 draw with Southampton at St. Mary's stadium on Sunday, both goals came in during the first 45 minutes of the match.
Meanwhile Chelsea still remain at the top of the League with three point clear to second position Manchester City after Pellegrini side failed to take advantage of Chelsea result to equal them on point, but unfortunately for Manchester City they were held to a 2 -2 draw at Etihad Stadium by Burnley .
Southampton coach Ronald Koeman believe that one point against Chelsea is a fantastic result for his team, he said his side was also lucky.
"Of course, one point against Chelsea maybe is three points against another opponent and proud of the players. Proud about the organisation in the team, the spirit in the team and we knew it will be very difficult. But the boys did it fantastic and of course we passed some difficult moments in the game, but (I was) a little bit disappointed at half time because they scored a draw in the last minute before half time, but we keep the organisation and the spirit in the team and at some moments maybe a little bit lucky, but if you don't have luck against these kind of teams then it is impossible to have a good positive result." ~ Ronald Koeman
Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho said the ref made a mistake by not awarding Chelsea a penalty after Matt Targett's brought Cesc Fabregas down in the penalty box
(on lack of penalty when Cesc Fabregas went down under Matt Targett's challenge, only to receive a caution for 'simulation')
"The same as you. My view is your view, is the view of everybody. There are situations in matches where we can have different opinions, and you think something, and I think another thing, but there are others where everybody has the same opinion so..."
(Question: Do you think it was a penalty?)
"I am saying... we don't need to speak about it because everybody knows."
(Question: Why do you think it was not given?)
"Why? because the referee made a mistake. People make mistakes - he made a mistake. Big mistake - but a mistake." ~ Mourinho said
(on 'campaign' against Chelsea)
"I don't know. I don't know, I don't care. Chelsea is playing very well since the beginning of the season and that is the only thing we work at, it is the only thing we concentrate at. We are top of the league in the end of the first round because we deserve, and because it is a consequence of what we did. In the second part of the season we are going to try to do exactly the same thing. I am so happy with my players - tomorrow they are off and they deserve (it) a lot and against Tottenham we will be there again, trying to get a good game and a good result." ~ Mourinho added
