West Bromwich Albion's 2-2 draw with Manchester United in the English Premier League.
Post-match reaction from The Hawthorns on Monday evening (20 October)
following West Bromwich Albion's 2-2 draw with Manchester United in the
English Premier League.
Manchester United came from behind twice to earn a 2-2 draw with West
Bromwich Albion in the Premier League on Monday, with Daley Blind
scoring the second equaliser with three minutes remaining.
United looked like coming unstuck on the road again when Saido Berahino restored West Brom's lead in the 65th minute with his sixth goal of a breakthrough season.
Blind rescued a point for United, curling in from the edge of the penalty area for his first goal for the club since moving from Ajax in August.
Stephane Sessegnon put West Brom in front with a rasping shot in the eighth minute but Marouane Fellaini levelled in the 48th, having come on as a half-time substitute.
United are without a win in four away matches this campaign.
West Brom manager Alan Irvine said he was disappointed after the final whistle.
"Yeah, massively disappointed at the end to be honest. You know, the players are really, really disappointed at this moment... having put in such a good performance for most of the game really. So, you know, a lot of positives obviously to take from the game, but still that disappointment that we came so close and didn't manage to see the game out." ~ Alan Irvine
Alan also said United were to open last night that resulted to their two goals they conceded .
"Well, when you play as open and expansive as they do then clearly you're open when you lose possession - that's an opportunity then for you to try and hurt them by a quick counter-attack, and, you know, I suppose that was illustrated by both of our goals, how quickly we turned from not having the ball to then actually scoring. They were two great examples of how you take advantage of a team that is spread out. But that's a strength of theirs as well because in order for them to give you as many problems as they do then they have to commit a lot of players forward, they have to play in a very open way, and what you've got to do is use the ball really well when you get it." He added
Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal said his side were the better side he also feel disappointed.
"Two points lost. I think we were the better team and I'm very disappointed about the result. You can say we were two times behind but I don't think that West Bromwich Albion has created many chances - I think zero. And we gave the two goals away. We have created four chances in the first half and seven (in the second half), and we scored two goals in the second half in seven chances. I think we dominate the game... and that is what I want as a coach, as a manager, but a manager doesn't want a result like two-two. That I have said (to) my players, I cannot be happy... I am happy about our play style but not happy about the result." ~ Louis van Gaal,
Van Gaal was asked if he Can make up 11 points on Chelsea, he is optimistic that it can happen.
"That's possible because... but it is difficult to say because I'm unarrogant but I have done it a lot of times."
