Nemanja Matic gave Chelsea their first win in Champions League

Chelsea Manager Jose Mourinho said all that matter is 3 point not the number of goals you score because it a group stage match..
"Three points - this is not knock-out where goals are fundamental. This points and we lost two points at home and today we recovered than and also because of the other draw we put ourselves in a position, I'm not saying comfortable, but in a position where now we can control our destiny. We play two matches now consecutive against Maribor. If we manage to do six (points), six plus four would be ten and with ten - job done. So now we just have to focus on beating Maribor which I believe is not easy because to draw in Germany means something." ~ Jose Mourinho
A Cesc Fabregas free kick from the left in the 34th minute floated over the Sporting defence to the back post where Matic sent a looping header over goalkeeper Rui Patricio.
Chelsea, the European champions in 2012, now have four points.
Sporting, whose young team have fewer Champions League appearances in total than Chelsea captain John Terry, who was playing in his 100th Champions League match, have one point.

"Only the elected ones and the ones who play in the Champions (League) year after year manage to be in the "hundred club", with 100 matches for the same club. Maybe he (John Terry) was not captain in those hundred matches as he played some of those as a very young man but for sure he was captain in more than ninety games. He is an historical player in our club and today he made history for our club and also for himself. In fact, the "hundred club" is only for a few." ~ Jose Mourinho speaking during a press conference
Sporting coach Marco Silva said they are not happy as they were defeated by Chelsea but playing against a very strong side will make them improve ahead of their next matches.
"We were not at all happy with the result but we know (the quality) of our opponent and they way (the fans) cheered us today is a good tonic for what we have ahead of us and that is our next match Saturday (in Portugal's Primeira Liga). So, even if we are not happy with the result we are happy with the response the squad gave, specially in the second half." ~ Marco Silva
