Mourinho : Arsene Wenge remains a specialist in failure
Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho said on Friday (3rd October) that he
didn't need to apologise for calling Arsene Wenger a 'specialist in
failure' last season - and also dismissed suggestions that the NFL's
Rooney Rule needed to be introduced into the football, insisting, "There
is no racism in football".
Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho feels no need to apologise for calling Arsene Wenger a 'specialist in failure' ahead of Sunday's (5th October) English Premier League game at Stamford Bridge.
Mourinho said it had been a response to an earlier remark from Wenger saying that the league was "Chelsea's to lose" and that Mourinho "feared failure".
"I didn't get an apology, I don't apologise. But my feeling about it is that, to go over it, to forget it and to move forwards without thinking about what happened, you don't need to apologise. So I don't need to get an apology, I don't need to apologise. Intelligent people, football people, we don't need that. Finish, move and let's go for another match with big responsibility for both of us." Mourinho said at his pre-match press conference on Friday (3rd October).
The Portuguese boss did praise Wenger's achievement of reaching 18 years as manager at Arsenal - and also brushed off suggestions that last season's 6-0 win at Stamford Bridge would have any bearing on Sunday's match.
"It's once in a life, it's not normal, it happens one day. It's not something that is happening every day. Chelsea Arsenal normally the result is close."
Mourinho also dismissed the idea that the NFL's Rooney Rule was needed in football.
"There is no racism in football. If you are good, you are good. If you are good you get the job, if you are good you prove that you deserve the job - and football is not stupid to close doors to top people. So, if you are top, you are top" he stated.
The Rooney Rule requires at least one black or ethnic minority candidate to be interviewed for each managerial vacancy.
