Liverpool travel to Switzerland ahead of UEFA Champions League clash against Base
Liverpool return to the scene of one of their Champions League exits on Wednesday night.
"It's pretty much the same as what we were at the weekend. Apart from Mamadou Sakho is not here. He has picked up a slight strain which may have him out for a few weeks. So apart from the squad is pretty much the same. Daniel Sturridge isn't quite available and obviously the others that have been out are still out. So it doesn't leave us short, but we are working with what we have got. We always felt that after this next international break we should have everyone back in the group and be back to full strength again, but until that point we have got some young players that travelled with us as well, so it will be a good experience for them." ~ Brendan Rodgers
The five times Champions were eliminated back in 2002 after a 3-3 draw in Switzerland, which consequently saw them exit the group stages.
They return to Basle's St. Jakob Park after qualifying for the competition for the first time since 2009-10.
Runners-up in the English Premier League last season, Brendan Rodgers' side have endured a slow start to their league campaign this season.
However, they won their opening group game, following a narrow 2-1 win over Ludogorets of Bulgaria.
Another win over Basel could prove the perfect tonic for the Reds, having lost star forward Luis Suarez in the summer and injury on international duty seeing Daniel Sturridge unavailable for selection.
Liverpool defender Mamadou Sakho will also miss the game in Switzerland with a thigh strain that will rule him out for two to three weeks.
