Jack Wilshere is available for Arsenal's UEFA Champions League Group D tie against Galatasaray
Arsene Wenger confirmed on Tuesday (30th September) that midfielder Jack
Wilshere is available for Arsenal's UEFA Champions League Group D tie
against Galatasaray - the Arsenal manager also admitted his side are
under pressure to take three points from the game having lost their
opening match to Borussia Dortmund.
Jack Wilshere is available to Arsene Wenger for Arsenal's crucial Champions League clash against Galatasaray.
Wilshere was a doubt ahead of the game after suffering an ankle injury in the 1-1 draw against Tottenham Hotspur in the English Premier League at the weekend, but Wenger confirmed on Tuesday that the midfielder was in the squad for the Galatasaray game.
"He's in the squad for tomorrow. Will I start him or not, I have to be cautious on that, but he's in the squad," said Wenger.
Aaron Ramsey and Mikael Arteta will miss the game however.
The Arsenal manager said, "We lost these two players in our last game, Arteta and Ramsey, it could have been three because Wilshere was a doubt for a long time but he recovered quite well."
Arsenal lost out 2-0 to Borussia Dortmund away in Germany in their opening Champions League game this season and will be looking to get their European campaign back on track at home against Galatasaray.
Wenger admitted his side are under pressure to win the game and suggested that home form is a critical to success in Europe.
"We are maybe a bit more under pressure to win the game than if we had won the first. Basically the target is the same in the Champions League - you want to win your home games and you need one good result away from home and you need to win your home games."
The Turkish side managed a 1-1 draw with Anderlecht in their opening earlier this month - but full-back Kieran Gibbs said the squad is full of belief ahead of the match and eager to earn their first win in the Champions League this season.
Gibbs said, "We're in this competition not just to take part. The squad believes that we can do something special so we need to get back on track tomorrow."
Arsene Wenger also praised summer signing Danny Welbeck for integrating into the Arsenal squad with ease adding that the striker is aware of what is expected at a big club following his stint with Manchester United.
"I believe he has integrated very well into the team. I think for a player who comes from a big club, it's easier to integrate at another big club because they know what it is to play at the top level," said Wenger.
