David Villa got back to training

With New York City FC scheduled to play their inaugural Major League Soccer (MLS) campaign in 2015, Summer signing David Villa is maintaining his fitness by joining Australian side Melbourne City for the 2014/15 A-League season.

Villa signed for New York City FC from Atletico Madrid in June before joining up with Spain for the country's disastrous World Cup campaign, where he played and scored in the final group game against Australia.

Having made his name with Spanish side Valencia, Villa signed for Barcelona in 2010 before moving to the Spanish capital and joining Atletico three years later.

Villa will be joined at New York City FC by Frank Lampard - currently on loan at Manchester City - while former USA international Claudio Reyna is the club's director of football.

The Australian A-League season kicks off on Friday (October 10th) with Villa and Melbourne City starting their campaign a day later, away to Sydney FC.
