Arda Turan gave Atletico Madrid 1-0 win against Juventus in Group A
A second-half strike by Arda Turan gave Atletico Madrid 1-0 win
against Juventus in Group A of the Champions League on Wednesday
Juventus dominated possession but paid for a lack of penetration up front when Juanfran Torres crossed from the right and Turan stabbed the ball home at the far post with goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon stranded in the 75th minute.
Juventus coach Massimiliano Allegri said his side lost to Atletico Madrid due to one mistake which gave atletico the only goal in the match.
"What could we have done? Well, let's just say we've paid dearly for one mistake we made in the play where they scored. They made the best of that situation. For us, it's a defeat after a well played match, a match we have actually handled for quite a long time. But well, we knew it was going to be difficult and we will just pay dearly for it
Obviously, anything can happen in the group after today. Malmo have proved not to be any Cinderella clearly beating Olympiakos. And now in our group we all have three points each, so everything is open, anything can happen, but we do have very good chances to get through. That would, of course, mean to win the next game." ~ Massimiliano Allegri
Atletico Madrid coach Diego Simeone believed that his tactical change during the match gave them the 3 point they needed.
"As time went by, when Juventus started to get better in the second half, we changed some things: (Antoine) Griezmann came in, we swapped to 4-4-2 and the game just opened. The game then was for the team who was ready to score then to take, it was us to score and after that we just got our way through the most convenient match for us.
we did not get back what we lost (against Olympiakos), but I have to admit that after Malmo won we can just start over. Even so, it's clear for us that Juventus might be the strongest team in the group". ~ Diego Simeone
All four teams in the group now have three points, with Sweden's Malmo beating Olympiakos of Greece 2-0.
