Anderlecht increased their lead at the top of the Belgian Pro League
Anderlecht |
Anderlecht increased their lead at the top of the Belgian Pro League with a 2-0 win over struggling Zulte Waregem away from home at the Regenboogstadion on Saturday (September 27).
Leaders Anderlecht were hoping to hang on to their unbeaten record in the Belgian Pro League on Saturday - and it seemed likely, given the quality of their opposition.
Home side Zulte Waregem went into the match 15th in the standings and had not won their last five games.
Anderlecht, unmistakable in their bright pink away kit, looked threatening from the outset and went close just after the half hour mark.
However, Aleksandar Mitrovic's effort rattled off the upright.
Minutes later the visitors went close again - but it wasn't the woodwork that scuppered the chance this time, just the indecision of Ibrahima Conte.
Just ahead of the interval Anderlecht got the goal they had been clamouring for.
Yoeri Tielemans teed up Matias Suarez, who provided a classy finish from range.
In the second half the one-way traffic continued.
The key moment came in the 67th minute when Suarez turned provider - and Andy Najar cemented the scoreline at 2-0.
The win allows Anderlecht to extend their lead over chasing Gent to five points, although Gent still have a game in hand.
Zulte remain 15th
